Land of Nothingness

Autumn/Winter 2023

Looking back on the past year, the pandemic’s unforeseen impact — along with the tension between governance and the governed, openness and control — and the Russia–Ukraine war accelerating global de-integration, have together cast a pervasive sense of apocalypse. This collective unease gives rise to a dystopian self-reflection, revealing the conflict between people and authority, freedom and restraint, order and chaos — a dualistic tension of fear, control, and composure beyond words.
Rewinding to post-228 Taiwan, set against the backdrop of the White Terror era, AW2023 explores the island’s dystopian landscape through the lens of synchronicity — portraying how people once imagined a future utopia amidst oppression. By fragmenting and reconstructing symbols of power, the collection attempts to resist and subvert the illusion of an idealized society.
